Amputation; It is the cutting off of severely damaged or non-functional extremities and removing them from the body. Although amputation of joints is not a saving treatment, it is a surgical condition that is necessary in some cases.

Reasons for Amputation

Peripheral vascular diseases are the main reasons for amputation, in other words, conditions requiring amputation. If we continue with nutritional diseases, diabetes can also be considered a reason for amputation. We can list the other reasons for amputation as follows.

Freezing

Direct and prolonged exposure of limbs to cold is referred to as frostbite. This may cause tissue damage and wounds in the vessels.

traumas

With the release of toxins after trauma, serious pain and damage may occur in muscle or ischemic tissues. Amputation may become necessary for life-threatening situations in the lower and upper extremities.

tumors

Due to the development of treatments such as radiation and chemotherapy, the number of primary amputations in tumor tissues may decrease. It is extremely important to keep the area where amputation will be performed hygienic.

The average recovery time after amputation is 8 weeks.
